Talaash review

Not for nothing do they call him the perfectionist. To put it in perspective, there are the brawny and no brainers of Salman. There are the idyllically set hypothetical and aribitrary rom-coms of SRK. And there is the intelligent nay highbrow cinema with every nuance taken care of spearheaded by Aamir Khan. Talaash although not of the standard of a 3 Idiots, is outrightly one of the most intriguing, interesting, stupendous films of the modern times. Extremely captivating narrative, edge of the seat sequences and well written characters catapult it into top 3 movies of 2012. It encompasses all genres in its plot and all in apt measure. That it keeps you on the tenterhooks until the last 5 mins speaks volumes of the excellence of the writers, directors and producers. Kareena Kapoor, the actress proves yet again the supremacy of her craft among her glam doll contemporaries, Rani Mukerji remains a performer par excellence, Nawazuddin Siddiqui grows from strength to strength. Talaash is as good a thriller as they can make. When you watch the complete film, you realise why its publicity was kept low key. The film shines like a bright sun, requiring no effort to experience its warmth. Its automatic and effortless magnificence leaves one longing for more. One of the few film makers to emotionally move his audience in every film of his, Aamir stamps his authority over the numero uno position in so far as the art of substantive film production is concerned. I would recommend you to "Talaash the movie tickets of Talaash". It is sure to boggle your mind.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan review

Truth be told, Jab Tak Hai Jaan is not a good film when considered in totality. There is something called sympathy votes in elections. Yash Chopra has got just that after his death from the movie critics or so you feel after tolerating this unending love saga. How can you justify civilians defusing bombs ? How can you justify the hallowed Indian army shaking a leg with nubiles ? Utter disrespect and denigrating portrayal of the venerated Indian force. Moving on. How can you not deny that Ekta Kapoor's soporific daily soaps arent your inspiration for this overstretched, illogical, implausible, hysterical, meaningless, brainless, drivel of a movie. Katrina Kaif is an abominable, deplorable, and ham of an actress if at all she can be called one. Her Hindi diction and dialogue delivery is imperfect, inept and clumsy, Rehman's music is mediocre at best. Cinematography, fantastic locations and Anushka Sharma are the only saving grace. SRK's majestic acting ability is wasted. What we notice more is his wrinkles and ageing face. In toto, sll hype. Proves this dictum totally right: "All that glitters isnt gold". You have to be totally blinded and immersed in love with SRK to ignore the shortcomings of this nonsensical movie. Alas! the sad reality remains that it will, despite its gaping drawbacks gross hundreds of crores.

Agneepath reviewed

In a way the song Chikni Chameli perfectly typifies the movie Agneepath - Overhyped but saleable. Hrithik Roshan is too handsome for the rustic lad which his character is but he's brilliant in whatever he does in his limitations. Sanjay Dutt is the endearing antagonist for which awards would make a beeline. The film harks backs to the times of yore when the "hero" would resurge from the throes of death and eventually kill the villain despite the latter reigning supreme all the while.Priyanka Chopra as has become her wont, has a role commensurate with her clothes--- small and "exposing" her, both literally and figuratively. Movie has bloopers like ICCU (for ICU), tattooed Dutt in the 90's. Forget logic, ignore the gratuitous and gory violence and this movie, coming as it does in the times of 90 minute movies as Delhi Belly does captivate, even so in parts. Great dialogue. excellent background score nay a stretched screenplay affording a yawn make this movie a one time watch. Dont go with any expectations you wont come out disappointed.

Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu

Ek main Aur Ek Tu must be viewed as much for Kareena's natural beauty as for its unconventional ending. Its a wonderful coming of age film for Hindi cinema where the ending leaves a smile on your face. It mirrors the changing Indian society. A girl and boy can be just good friends without crossing the line. Many of us would even relate to it. The song "Aunty Ji" merits a special mention. Excellent lyrics and eccentric tune. Very good film, intelligent humour, disappointing Imran, brilliant Boman. Would appeal immensely to the Urbane youth. Recommended this Navratra err sorry VALENTINE WEEK despite the fact that its not a typical mushy romantic movie.

Housefull 2 reviewed

Getting complimentary tickets to view the bunkum that is Housefull 2, I feel for those who bought the tickets. The only saving grace- Akshay Kumar affirms "More the merrier" a dictum valid for criticism this movie begets. May be the director thought that only keeping a title which means success for a movie suffices. Being a comedy, it doesnt even evoke hearty laughter at a single point; a chuckle at best at Akshay's antics. The pairing is misplaced what with a lean Riteish having the voluptuous Zarine Khan as his arm candy. Jacqueline Fernandes like John Abraham plummets to new lows as an actor. Boman Irani is wasted. Randhir Kapoor chose a wrong movie to stage a comeback. Rishi Kapoor and Mithun are good enough. Songs in contrast are hummable, the costumes praiseworthy, the colours appealing. Even a Navjot Siddhu would be hard pressed to find mirth-worthy moments in this disastrous showcase for intelligent cinema , a path on which bollywood had started to tread. Need I rate this flick ? You must be kidding me.

Kahaani Reviewed

If youve not had a sneak at the movies of late and cinematic pangs are nudging you to the nearest theatre, the movie Kahaani should be a priority on your wish list. Not since 'A Wednesday' has a movie impressed as much as this exhilarating flick. With zilch star power and the director's dubious CV smarting from abysmal movies as Aladin and Home delivery, no one expected this to be such a gem. Its when the narrative, screenplay, camera work and a fantastic script drive a movie that such high quality piece of art comes to the fore. This one is a must watch, although youll need to be on your intellectual toes all through.

RAAJNEETI Reviewed

PLOT
Rajneeti talks about the politics of dynasty, that of sleaze and also of the corruption and malpractices which are rampant in the dirty game that’s politics. Manoj Vajpayee and Arjun Rampal belong to the same party and so does Nana Patekar and a few others. But there is internal bickering which leads first to the induction of Ajay Devgnm (step brother of Ranbeer and Rampal) into the party followed by Manoj Bajpayee’s demand to make him the laeder of the party. Consequently 2 factions are formed one of Manoj and other of Rampal. What follows is the political drama.

POSITIVES

Ah there are many.

1.Manoj Bajpayee is the lynchpin of the movie. He truly steals the show and is the real highlight of the film. Its amazing how actors like Boman Irani and Manoj bajpayee, are seldom part of B-town conversations but in actuality they are the drivers of many movies. Manoj has an awesome screen presence and the confidence and panache with which he delivers his dialogues makes you feel that he should star more often in Bolly movies. His dialogue “Kararaa jawab milegaa” is marvelously executed. He is too real.

2.The screenplay, cinematography camera angles and sound effects are brilliant and worth appreciation.

3. For a change Arjun Rampal has acted well. Katrina Kaif has “tried” but influences the viewer by her acting only so much. She still has a long long way to go before she truly is crowned the queen of bollywood. Dialogues need urgent attention. NRI accent in every movie is a given now. Not admirable. Ranbeer Kapoors performance is par for the course and so is Nana Patekars’.

4.Ajay Devgn is mind blowing. You develop so much positivity and respect for his character that you want to hug him for his performance which is being equated with that of Karan of Mahabharat due the similarity of the character he portrays.

5.The film has no dragging songs. Infact there are no songs as such in the movie. Not track is played more than a minute. That speaks volumes of the content and editing of the movie. Directors must take a cue as to how to successfully narrate a movie sans music and dance.

6.You take the brilliant eloquence of every character of the movie home. There is at least one dialogue you remember for each character. So credit to the lyricist and dialogue writer. A job well done.

7.There are scenes which tend to falsh in your memory even after the movie. Like Ajay Devgn driving a Benz in narrow streets of Patna and his pals running after him.

8.Scenes of shock and tragedy are believable and shot really well.

So what went wrong?

NEGATIVES

1. Some inexplicable sequences like:

a. The media ignoring Manoj Bajpayee’s death and as has been shown throughout the movie that they try and find out the core reason of every development are not interested in his death. He is shown to be a big political player so how can his death fade into oblivion.
b. Ranbeer kapoor is shown to be studying and pursuing his PhD all this while when suddenly at the demise of his father he decides to take to politics and shockingly his moves are politically correct also. So Not believable.

2. Gunning down of persons was never so easy.

3.Chaste hindi dialgues will forbid English speaking urbanites to watch this movie. The hindi that’s used is too much for an average multiplex viewer to comprehend. Sample this “Tum mere jeshtha putra ho”. People started to shout “KUNTI KUNTI”

4.Katrina Kaif doesnt deliver political speeches with the flair of a politician. Agreed that shes a woman but political speeches aren’t love lectures. They need authority and command which Manoj Bajpayee can perhaps teach her.

5.Nasrudeen Shah coouldve been used more than just a prop.

6.As in Mahabharat, when one feels bad for Karan, the death of Ajay Devgn makes one feel that the director could’ve done away with that.

7. The last few minutes of the movie seem a formality. The audience predicts the content.

All in all its not a family film with a few expletives and a few intimate scenes but is worth a watch only if you have spare time. To cast commercial actors in a political drama was always going to be risky but Prakash Jha has nearly managed the impossible. Barring the last few minutes. The movie is justified and unlike other bollywood ventures compels you to think.

A 2.5 on 5 for this one.
